VALESOR contribution to next EU environmental health policy
After 3 years of intense European collaborative research, VALESOR has developed a series of policy briefs, aimed at informing European environmental health policy.
A first session focused on the most recent health aspects related to environmental stressors and consequence on health and environment:
- Air pollution epidemiology and the challenges of quantitative risk assessment External link.
- Effects of socioeconomic status on vulnerability and susceptibility to air pollution External link.
- Pollutants, and chemical substances included in the ambient air quality directive (AAQD), drinking water directive (DWD) and perspectives for health impact assessment External link.
- Economic valuation studies on values of environmental stressors External link.
In addition, final year of the project focused on economic valuation of these health effects and how it can foster next EU health environment public policy:
- the Value of a Statistical Life (VSL) and bounds for willingness to pay (WTP) for improved health outcomes in key VALESOR areas; WTP for Fatal and Non-Fatal Environmental Related Diseases pdf, 9.7 MB.
- Willingness to Pay (WTP) to reduce risks associated with multi-exposure to environmental stressors; WTP to reduce risks arising from a multi-exposure on key VALESOR health endpoints pdf, 7.3 MB.
- the use of Social Welfare Functions (SWF) in addressing distributional issues; Distributional Considerations in Policy Evaluation pdf, 486.2 kB.
- the complexity of interacting environmental Complexity issues in the valuation of health effects from environmental stressors pdf, 582.2 kB.
All these briefs will be presented jointly with other METEOR cluster project members, all active in this research area, at the occasion of a final event in Brussels end 2026.
