VALESOR contributes to OECD workshop on environmental impact valuation

Daniel Herrera Araujo, Professor of Economics at Mines Paris-PSL, and partner in the VALESOR project, participated in a high-level panel at the OECD kick-off workshop on environmental impact valuation, held in Paris on 5–6 May 2025.

In his intervention, he presented insights from the VALESOR project on how to strengthen the consistency and transparency of health impact valuation linked to environmental stressors. He highlighted three key challenges in the field: limited data availability, difficulties in establishing causal links between exposure and health outcomes, and the valuation of intangible effects.

VALESOR addresses these issues through systematic review of current research, harmonisation of valuation metrics, and the development of an online tool for economic and health impact assessment. The project is also advancing new approaches to value non-fatal health outcomes, including a structured grid of health endpoints and a method to link quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) with willingness-to-pay estimates.
